Brooklyn Stewart Invited to Speak at the Summit Marketing Strategic Fundraising Summit

Inspiring the Next Generation Through Youth Philanthropy

Brooklyn Stewart, founder of Brooklyn's Backpack Drive, recently had the incredible honor of being invited to present at the annual Summit Marketing Strategic Fundraising Summit in San Antonio, Texas. The invitation provided a unique opportunity to share her journey as a young philanthropist, connect with Salvation Army leaders from across the region, and inspire others to see how one simple idea can grow into a movement that impacts thousands of lives.

Youth Philanthropy and Loving Humankind

During her presentation, "Youth Philanthropy and Loving Humankind," Brooklyn shared the story behind Brooklyn's Backpack Drive and the lessons she has learned over more than a decade of community service. She spoke about what philanthropy means to her, not simply raising money, but developing a genuine love for helping others and creating opportunities for young people to get involved in making a difference.

Brooklyn's presentation explored the origins of her project, which began when she was just five years old. After participating in a Salvation Army school supply drive, she and her family launched what would eventually become Brooklyn's Backpack Drive. What started with 11 donated backpacks has grown into a long-running community initiative that has provided more than 3,000 backpacks to students in need throughout the Kansas City area.

She also discussed the role that community partnerships have played in expanding the drive over the years, including collaborations with local businesses, social media outreach, and volunteer engagement. A major focus of her message was the importance of youth-led fundraising and encouraging young people to recognize that they can make an impact regardless of their age.

Another highlight of the presentation was Brooklyn's discussion of her relationship with The Salvation Army and the importance of mentorship, service, and community partnerships. She shared how these relationships have helped grow the drive and create meaningful opportunities to serve others. Brooklyn also reflected on receiving the William Booth Award, the highest honor awarded by The Salvation Army, and being recognized as its youngest recipient.

An Unforgettable Experience in San Antonio

While presenting at the summit was certainly the highlight of the trip, the experience extended far beyond the stage.

The event brought together Salvation Army officers and fundraising professionals from across the region, giving Brooklyn the opportunity to meet and learn from leaders who dedicate their lives to serving communities. Conversations throughout the conference provided valuable insights into fundraising, community impact, and the many ways organizations work together to support people in need.

Equally memorable were the friendships formed and the shared sense of purpose experienced throughout the event. Being surrounded by individuals who are passionate about helping others reinforced the core mission that has guided Brooklyn's Backpack Drive from the very beginning.

The summit also included opportunities to enjoy the culture and beauty of San Antonio. One of the most memorable experiences was a boat ride along the famous River Walk, winding through downtown San Antonio. Seeing the city from the water, enjoying the historic architecture, and spending time with fellow attendees created lasting memories and added a fun, personal dimension to an already remarkable experience.

Looking Ahead

The opportunity to present at the Summit Marketing Strategic Fundraising Summit was both an honor and an inspiration. Sharing the story of Brooklyn's Backpack Drive with such an engaged audience reinforced the belief that service projects of any size can create meaningful change when fueled by passion, perseverance, and community support.

Brooklyn is grateful to Summit Marketing and The Salvation Army for the invitation and for providing a platform to showcase youth philanthropy. She hopes her story encourages other young people to get involved, start projects of their own, and discover the impact they can have when they choose to love and serve their communities.

As Brooklyn's Backpack Drive continues to grow, experiences like this serve as a reminder that even the smallest idea can become something much bigger when people come together to help others.
